Former legendary NFL player and coach Mike Ditka on Tuesday that he can’t for the life of him understand why football players are protesting police brutality and racial injustice by refusing to stand for the national anthem.

And he’s got a message for them they aren’t going to like one bit:

“If you can’t respect this country, get the hell out of it,” Ditka said on “National Report.”

“It’s not a complicated thing,” he said. “You play the game, you enjoy the game, if you don’t like the game, get out of it.”

He added, “You play football, that’s it. You’re privileged, you got a gift from God that you can play the game because you got a body you can do it with.

“I don’t really understand what you’re protesting. I played the game, I coached the game for a long time, and it makes no sense to me. You ought to get down on your hands and knees and thank God every day that you can make the kind of money that you can make playing football, or playing any sport.

Ditka added, “So, to me it makes no sense, you got the wrong guy.”

He suggested that players who don’t want to be on the field for the national anthem should “go to another country and play there.

Refreshingly old school. And judging by the collapsing ratings of this year’s NFL games, it looks like the American people agree with him.

  1. Politics and religious beliefs are not allowed for discussion during work times for the government, because they do not want division between the workers. They want a team to be cohesive to pull together because united we stand, divided we fall. When there is disagreement, then the well oiled machinery of accomplishment gets derailed, and team cohesivemess falls apart. It is exactly like a game of tug of war, only the stronger more determined side wins. Now imagine the accomplishments that could be achieved if everyone pulled together in the same direction. I prefer to enjoy sports by concentrating on the game, and not listening to someone who is disrupting it with their views, and who is disrespecting the honor of the American flag and the national anthem. I will not sit idle and listen to it, but rather walk away from it and not watch at all. The flag and anthem are far more important to me, than a game. I live because of being patriotic, and not being a sports fan. When the flow of money stops, so does the game. Time for professional atheletes to wake up and smell the coffee, or get a new job that does not make nearly what they make, and join the rest of the working class that supports them, and who used to live vicariously through them.
