U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., slammed those expressing thoughts and prayers for the victims of Friday’s mass shooting that killed 49 people in Christchurch, New Zealand — in a house of prayer!
And the reaction she got for her “despicable” comments was instant and well-deserved.
Reacting to remarks made by New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter and invoked other mass shootings that took place in houses of worship.
“At 1st I thought of saying, ‘Imagine being told your house of faith isn’t safe anymore.’ But I couldn’t say ‘imagine.’ Because of Charleston. Pittsburgh. Sutherland Springs,’” Ocasio-Cortez wrote.
“What good are your thoughts & prayers when they don’t even keep the pews safe?” she asked.
Seriously? That is her FIRST reaction to this butchery? Unbelievable. And AOC instantly got hit from all sides:
If one of your first 1000 thoughts after a horrific mass shooting is to go dunk on a person, a religious belief or an organization on Twitter, you should delete your account.

These poor, innocent people were murdered by a despicable terrorist in their house of prayer, and you choose to denigrate prayer in the aftermath? What is wrong with you?

Even a very liberal minister was outraged:
Maybe hold off attacking the beliefs of others in the immediate aftermath of a tragedy, especially when it was people of faith who suffered?

And she wasn’t alone.
What a horribly despicable thing to say. I'm not religious but understand the importance of prayer to those who are. You really should consider deleting this tweet.

Because, genius, when you have faith, you NEVER lose sight or give up on God. You should try it.

Awful take and REALLY not the time to belittle people of faith.

Does anyone think AOC will actually apologize this time? Not on your life. Her arrogance knows no bounds.
Truly sad that even in the face of worldwide, bi-partisan outrage to her comments, she won’t learn from this and grow as a person.
